when i first started graduate school (the second time around), i was woefully out of practice when it came to writing. after 5 years working in an industry research lab, where most of the writing i did was emails, powerpoint slides, and monthly project reports, i found that it took me hours and hours to write a silly 2-page essay for a class assignment. my writing speed has increased somewhat since then, but not enough — especially if i am going to finish my dissertation by june of 2008! recognizing that my skills are a bit weak in this area, i have decided to try to write *something*, ANYTHING, about my research, every single day. hopefully it will be something intelligent and useful, or profoundly self-reflective. probably it will be mostly crap, with a few good ideas mixed in. only time will tell!
